Bows, Bows, Bows

Awhile back my friend Katie picked up a couple hair bows for Mara Kate from a children's boutique back in Kentucky where she is from. Even at a fairly reasonable price ($3.50 each) I still thought I could do better. A friend from church told me awhile back that she knew how to make little hair bows and that if I bought the ribbon and the clips she would make them for me for $2 a bow.
So over the past few weeks I have been checking the fabric sections of Hancocks, Wal-Mart as well as a few other fabric stores around town for different colored ribbon. Most places sell ribbon for as little as 30 cents a yard, which is more than enough for a little hair bow.
After collecting several different colors I was ready to have them made---but, then I got to thinking and looking at the professionally done bows from the children's boutique and decided I'd try making them on my own. At first I flopped and got a little discouraged. Then I decided to get online to see if I could find instructions there. There were some, but mostly they were for SALE! I did find one website with FREE step by step instructions as well as pictures to correspond with each step. I tried those steps, but MY bows still didn't look the way I wanted them too. After inspecting the ones from the children's boutique much more closely I think I figured out how they do it...

So, this afternoon I spend part of my time making several hair bows for Mara Kate. :) I am so excited that they turned out halfway decent and now she pretty much has a bow to go with every outfit! Now that I have the skill, I think I will continue to keep my eye open for fun and unique ribbon that could be transformed into a hair bow for my sweet little, southern girl---or maybe to make as gifts for her cousins and friends too!

Below are pictures of my results:

The hot pink and white ones (at the very top) are the
professionally made ones from the boutique.
All the others I made!

Not bad, if I do say so myself! Yes, I'm pretty proud of myself! :)

Oh, and after figuring out how much I spent on all the needed supplies (ribbon, wire, hot glue and even a glue gun) it turns that each bow only cost me about $0.82 each! How's that?!

OH MY! OH MY! I'm SOOOO impressed! May I please just say that I cannot make ANYTHING! And you have so impressed me! Congratulations! We buy bows in Nashville for $2.00, but we don't have a wide selection because Daddy isn't too excited to spend money on hairbows...but $0.82, now he might go for that! I think Jana-made is just as pretty as pro-made! Wish you lived closer so that I could have a lesson!

Excellent job! And if you need big-girl ones, I'm telling you- Ebay is the place. One dollar each. Good job working with your budget!
