Yesterday Mara Kate was exceptionally fussy after we thought she finally getting better from the cold she had been carrying around all week.
5pm- Noticed that Mara Kate's left eye was a bit red and bottom lid was starting to look swollen.
6pm-Ate supper and decided to rent some movies since Mara Kate was fussy and Kane was starting to feel like he had gotten her cold.
7:15- Mara Kate was acting extra tired, so I nursed her and got her ready for bed.
7:25pm- Mara Kate to bed---down like a rock. Kane and I start Ocean's 12 (which was not nearly as good as Ocean's 11 in my opinion).
8:45pm- Mara Kate wakes up screaming. I nurse her and put her back to bed.
9:30pm- Mara Kate wakes up screaming. I nurse her to calm her down and put her back to bed.
10:30pm- Mara Kate wakes up screaming. I nurse her to calm her back down, we rock for a bit cuddling and then put her back to bed. I take a shower.
10:45pm- Mara Kate wakes up and I notice her eye is more red and swollen---top and bottom lids. We decide to call the Pediatrician's answering service.
10:50pm- Nurse calls us back, Kane explains the situation and she says if we think Mara Kate is in pain to take her to the ER (Saturday night, so ER is the only option).
10:55pm- We drive to Children's Heathcare of Atlanta and wait in the waiting room. Mara Kate screamed half the way there. She was amazingly good in the waiting room.
After about 20 minutes of waiting we are called back. They check her blood pressure, weigh her, take her temperature, etc. We are taken to an exam room to wait on the nurse and doctor. The nurse comes and swabs Mara Kate's eye. The doctor comes and looks in her eyes and ears as well as listens to her chest.
Mara Kate, Kane and Jana are all getting very tired by this point.
The doctor tells us that the eye infection was being caused by an ear infection. She tells us there is quite a bit of fluid in her ears. The doctor gives us a prescription of Augmentin as well as the first dose before we leave the hospital. She is also given some ear drops which helped to numb the ear to make it less painful for Mara Kate.
About 1:15am- We are discharged and head home, all very sleepy, but glad we came because now we know the problem and are on track to get Mara Kate better (after being sick for almost an entire week).
1:45am- Mara Kate goes to sleep.
2am- Kane takes NyQuil for his cold and goes to sleep in the living room. I go to sleep in our bedroom with Mara Kate.
4am- Mara Kate wakes up to nurse. She goes back down easily. I go back to sleep.
7:45am- I wake up and check on Mara Kate. She is sound asleep. I lay back down and try to go back to sleep.
8am- Mara Kate wakes up babbling and happy in her bed. When I go to get her I realize her eye is matted shut due to dried pus. I clean her eye so she can look at me with BOTH her beautiful blue eyes and she is in a happy mood, once the cleaning is over.
I have spent the morning drinking coffee and letting Kane continue to sleep off his NyQuil.
9:45am- About to put Mara Kate down for her morning nap and then heading to the Pharmacy to pick up Mara Kate's prescription as well as some kleenex for Kane's cold.
So, Mara Kate has her first ear infection. And I am learning new things about motherhood...and still so thankful for my precious daughter and am so looking forward to her feeling much better SOON!
