Gilead

This past weekend Kane, Mara Kate and I traveled to Maggie Valley, NC to a cabin in the mountains. It was a nice getaway, yet different than any other trips we have made to the cabin in the past. This trip was Mara Kate's first. She enjoyed her time at "Gilead" and we enjoyed some quiet family time together as well. Although, our visit wasn't as "relaxing" as some previous ones (we are learning that weekends away are very different with a 3 month old, than they were just the two of us), we still enjoyed the quietness of the mountains and the slow pace of the small surrounding town.

We stopped in Rabun, GA on the way up Friday evening and ate at a small Mexican restuarant. It is tucked away in the north Georgia mountains and the food was very good. We plan to keep it in mind for future road trips. Saturday morning we enjoyed playing with our little girl and eating some cinnamon rolls we brought (from IKEA). After breakfast we ventured out to browse the shops on Main Street in Waynesville, NC -- a quaint little town with cute shops and sidewalks ready to be strolled down. We made our usual stop at the Mast General Store to buy some candy from their numerous candy barrels as well as a browse through a new store called Just Ducky (childrens/baby clothes) where we got a cute little lace diaper cover for Mara Kate to wear with her smocked dress from Aunt Jane...so feminine! :)

We had a nice relaxing afternoon back at the cabin where we fixed fajitas for lunch. I got in a nap while Kane and Mara Kate took a walk and had a little chat with the neighbor next door.

Later in the afternoon I took a dip in the hot tub with the company of one of my baby magazines while Kane sweetly kept Mara Kate (I think the two of them watched TV).

Saturday evening we went out for supper and decided to try a new place we had never been called, Fat Buddies BBQ. I must say that the food didn't compare to what I was raised on (Smokestack Kansas City BBQ, but it was still fun getting out after a lazy afternoon at the cabin.

It was a great family trip and one we'll always remember.

Dear Mara Kate,

I'm really glad that you had such a good time on your first visit to the cabin. It looks like you took good care of Mommy and Daddy and got a good snuggle on the fur rug. You are growing so fast and I love you so much.

Love,

Grandpa
