Family and Life

Mara Kate with her "Grand -Mimi"

We have been busier than usual this past week. On Thursday Mara Kate and I packed up and headed a little north with my friend Katie. She was passing through Knoxville on her way to a wedding, so we bummed a ride up there to spend some time with Kane's parents...(aka Tuie and Papa Dog to Mara Kate).

After we arrived we found out that Kane's grandmother (Mimi) had started going down hill after a couple years of several health problems. Her suffering ended and she passed away Friday morning and arrangements were made for her funeral services. Kane who had planned on working in Atlanta on Saturday instead cancelled his plans and headed to Knoxville on Friday afternoon. Thankfully I was already there. His brother and sister and all of his cousins who also live out of town made plans to drive in as well. It turned out to be a very special weekend filled with many memories of Mimi and also new memories were made as the family gathered together. For some very meaningful thoughts about Mimi Kane, visit my sister-in-laws blog.

It was nice to have Kane with me over the weekend although it was unexpected. We arrived back home Monday evening and hit the ground running. Yesterday was spent doing 3 loads of laundry, paying bills and just getting reorganized after having been gone for 5 days. This morning I babysat at our church, which is something I do once a week for a women's bible study group. This afternoon Mara Kate and I did some grocery shopping. Tomorrow we have a play group, a doctor's appointment and I am attending a dinner club I have participated in once a month for a few months now.

Saturday my in-laws will be in town and have graciously offered to babysit for us that evening so that we can actually have a date night (a rare blessing)---complete with eating our food without every couple minutes cutting up bite size pieces for a miniature person sitting in a highchair at the end of the booth. I didn't realize how much we need this until it is planned and I start thinking about it and looking forward to the evening.

Ahh---then MK and I will be off once again next week for a few days in Virginia to visit my family and friends. I don't think my life will slow down at all until the new year probably with Thanksgiving around the corner, MK's first birthday as well as Christmas (which I realized is only 2 months from today!!)

Man, this year has really flown by...will time continue speeding up every year from now on? I hope not!

What a good picture of Mimi and Mara Kate. It was good to be there Sunday to share the joy of Mimi's homegoing with you all. Her service was truly a wonderful picture of who she was, and that her life reflected Christ. Kane, I am sorry for your loss, but it is so wonderful to KNOW that you will see her again in glory....FOREVER! Love, Mom
