Sweet Sleep

My preccious baby sleeping
(this was Mara Kate at less than 2 months old)

If you know me AT ALL then you know that I LOVE sleep. You also know that I require much more than the average person (uuuhh....my husband that is). Also, if you have been around my daughter for much time at all (at night) then you already know she has NEVER been a great sleeper. Early on she didn't sleep much at all and when she did sleep it was very lightly and she awoke very easily. (= very tired mommy)

Recently (within the last month) Mara Kate has been taking really good naps and they have lengthened in duration. What used to be a 30 minute morning nap has pretty consistently turned into about a 90 minute nap. A wonderful time for me to get things going in the mornings and have some quiet time as well while she snoozes away. She also usually snoozes in the afternoon for a bit too.

With day time naps going so well lately I am pleased, even though at almost 9 months of age she still regularly wakes up 1-2 times during the night to eat (which is exactly what her Daddy did when he was her age).

Well, last night Mara Kate covered some uncharted territory...she slept for 9 1/2 hours without a peep! She went to "bed" at 7:30pm and we didn't hear from her until 5am. Now, 5am is still too early for me to get up in the morning, but for her it was quite an accomplishment (she did go back to sleep for 2 more hours after she was fed).
If I had just known ahead if time that she was going to do this, I might have appreciated it a little more. Instead, I woke up in a bit of a panic at 2am thinking---Why hasn't she stirred? Is she ok? Is she breathing? (You know all the thoughts of a concerned mom!).

I guess if she continues with this new pattern of sleeping longer hours at night, maybe I'll get used to it and actually be able to sleep 'through the night' as well---which is something I haven't done in over 9+ months myself. :0)

Ahh...sweet sleep!

Only a mother understands that sleep can be a true and rare luxury! I am glad Mara Kate was able to get in some good sleep and hopefully you will be able to join in with her soon!

Man how she's grown and changed so quickly! I'm so glad you're getting more sleep as she learns to sleep longer! I can imagine (and will know soon enough!) how rough constant lack of sleep must be!:)

She'll be sleeping longer and longer at a stretch until when she is a teenager, you will wish she would just get up before noon (on her own, of course)
